Noon to Midnight
It's Oktoberfest time again!! Labor Day weekend at the County Fairgrounds on Bagley Road in Berea.  Single Volunteers is back again to help out and have fun at this  colorful, entertaining and huge annual event. !  Despite having fun, this is also one of the main fundraisers that Single Volunteers does to cover our overhead and operating expenses ---Single Volunteers gets paid for the number of hours we help out. ( You probably noticed that we don't charge dues but still managed to contribute $1,476 in 2009  to various community service organizations and still had enough to provide free pizza at all of our meetings. This is how we did it ).
On Friday night, Sept 3, I am going to need 15 people to work in the food tent on either the 5:00 to 8:30 or the 8:30 to midnight shifts. Still plenty of room to get you on the schedule and this is the main area that I am currently seeking help. Ask anyone who worked the food tent last year what a good time we had!!

I'm pretty well covered right now  for Saturday, Sunday or Monday, Sept 4th, 5th and 6th  ---- we only needed two volunteers per shift to work in the main ticket booth. (12:00 to 4:00, 4:00 to 8:00 or 8:00 to 12:00).   If you want me to take your name as a backup in case something happens, please just let me know.
To sign up ( or if you have questions) contact Pat at Dad5218@Roadrunner.com   . We had 36 volunteers helping out last year and we all had a ball ---plus we raised enough money to keep us up and running for the year.  Come on down and have fun with us while helping support one of the finest community service organizations in the Northern Ohio area. ( Yes, I'm biased. So what?)

VolunteerCleveland Public Theater, Pandemonium Fundraiser. Note: This event was closed before we even had a chance top post it on our webpage. Sorry.  Because volunteers only have to work for two hours and can then attend the party ( tickets are normally $150! ), CPT has been flooded with people who want to help. What a surprise, right?  Because of this they have limited the number of volunteers that they are requesting from SV. The majority of these positions will go to the people that have volunteered the past few years. Sorry!

SOCIAL:  We are invited to a Hike with St Basil Adult Singles Group.  Invitation Reads:  Due to enormous pressure from several.....NO.....make that hundreds of members, we're heading back to Brandywine Falls . However, due to the unfortunate incident last year and the resulting litigation, we will NOT be going over the falls in steel drums. This year, we'll try our hand at cliff diving, which some say is less dangerous. We'll meet at 3 PM in the parking lot on Stanford Road , across the street from the Falls, which is about 100 feet from Brandywine Road (2 miles south of State Route 82 and 1 mile northwest of Old Eight in Sagamore Hills).  We'll regroup at a local eating/drinking establishment (probably Panini's on Royalton Road ) about 4:30 or 5 PM.  Contact ‘comedian’ Patrick M. (440-520-3249) with questions; if he listens to his messages at all, there's a 50/50 chance he'll call you back.  Caution:  As the water at Brandywine Falls is only 2-3 ft. deep and the height of the falls about 60 ft., hikers should brush up on their shallow-diving techniques prior to the event.

Note: for the balance of the year, we are moving the Domestic Violence Center event to Sundays to avoid the previous conflict we had with the monthly Single Volunteer meeting. The silver lining of course, is that we'll now be able to stop and have a drink after we finish working now.

Remember your favorite costume as a kid?  Last year our members told us they never ‘bought’ a costume, as a kid, but instead had ‘hand me downs’ or just found pieces and parts from a closet at home.  We invite you all to come dressed up at our Halloween meeting.  Bring back those memories of simple costumes – you don’t need to spend a lot of money or wear a fancy store bought costume.  Shopping at the local Re-Sale shop is fun!  Hope to see you there!!!!   Pictures from last years party can be found at www.svohio.org (photo gallery)

ORNAMENTS NEEDED:  The Strongsville Food Bank sponsors a 'Christmas for Kids' campaign for needy children in this area. Crossroads Stitchers, sponsored by Just Stitching in Strongsville , are making quick, easy cross stitch ornaments to be placed on Giving Trees around Strongsville . Most trees will be in area churches and the Chamber of Commerce. The finished ornaments will have gift request tags attached and area residents select an ornament from the tree and provide gifts for needy children in the area. There is a greater need for gifts this year, so consequently, more ornaments are needed. Hopefully, some of the crafters in our midst would like to help make ornaments. Copies of the patterns for this year are available, or you can choose a design of your own. It does not have to be anything elaborate and it does not have to be cross stitch, it can be any type of media you want as long as it is handmade. Last year, we also had machine embroidered and quilted ornaments. Just have fun! For more info , or to drop off completed ornaments, contact Sheryl (216-316-3928 or sheryllayh@yahoo.com ) or Shelly H at Just Stitching (440-572-9777). If you contact Shelly directly, please make sure to let her know that you are with Single Volunteers. Ornaments need to be turned in by Sat., Nov. 20, 2010.
